The IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) is a crucial entrance examination conducted by the Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER) for admission into its prestigious five-year BS-MS dual-degree programs. 1. IAT Exam Highlights 2025

Exam Name: IISER Aptitude Test (IAT)
Conducting Body: Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISER)
Mode of Exam: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
Exam Duration: 180 minutes (3 hours)
Number of Questions: 60
Total Marks: 240
Marking Scheme:
For each correct answer - +4 marks
For each incorrect answer - 1 marks
For unanswered questions - 0 marks
Medium of Exam: English

2. Eligibility Criteria for IAT : Applying for IAT 2025, candidates must have the following criterias, these are -

A. Nationality:
Open to Indian nationals, OCI, and PIO candidates.

B. Educational Qualification:
  • Must have passed or appeared in Class 12 (or equivalent) examination with Science stream in 2024 or 2025.
  • Candidates must have studied Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at the 10+2 level.
C. Minimum Marks Requirement:
  • General category: Minimum 60% aggregate in Class 12 (or equivalent).
  • SC/ST/PwD category: Minimum 55% aggregate in Class 12.
D. Admission Channels:
IISER offers admission through following three channels, these are:
# KVPY Channel: Based on KVPY Fellowship.
# JEE Advanced Channel: Based on JEE Advanced rank.
# IAT Channel: Based on IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) performance.

3. Syllabus and Exam Pattern for IAT 2025: 
The IAT exam follows a structured pattern that tests candidates in four key subjects.

# IAT Syllabus subjets infludes - Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology for Total of 240 marks
# For each subjects - No. of 15 Questions to be attempted, Each Question carries 4 marks to total of 60 Marks for each subject

The syllabus is based on NCERT Class 11 and 12th and the topic/chapter wise details or the breakdown are as below -

Preparedness for IAT 2025
  • Understand the Syllabus: Cover all topics from NCERT textbooks for Classes 11 and 12th grade.
  • Practice Regularly: Solve previous years’ question papers and mock tests to improve speed and accuracy.
